Hi Folks,

Long time no hear now so I thought I is a god time to let you know that I'm still working on the new upcoming Mail Inspector and show you some pics right from the developer's desk ;-)

This time I'd like to introduce the notification system of Mail Inspector 4 - one of the most important part for mail checking tools. The new notification system is designed as a nice, clean polymorph bunch of classes. This means that they can be easyely extend or enhanced - what isn't really the case for older versions of Mail Inspector.

In Mail Inspector 4 you can define a unlimited list of notifications as shown in the following screenshot (with one notification :) ).

The properties / settings of a notification looks like this:

As you may see there are three parts within a notification. First the general one containing a free form description. Second the "Rule" which says when this notification should occur. And last but not least the "action" which says what should occur.

The rule itself has a "Rule-Type" with the following choices:

All these not Rule-Types are currently implemented and lets one greatly controle one a notification will occur.

In the action ("settings") you simply choose what should be done, if the rule fits. Here is a brief list of what type of action are planed for the first version of MI 4:

  • Show a message box
  • Show a tray icon animation
  • Show a Microsoft Agent Animation
  • Play a sound
  • Mark a message
  • ...

I'm not fully happy with the notifications property dialog (the second screenshot). So if you folks can let me know your feedback (eg. in the Mail Inspector Enhancements Forum) it whould be very welcome! ;-)

Cheers,

Marc
